The difference between disinfecting, cleaning and sanitization
Disease and Viral outbreak is an extremely serious and potentially life threatening situation. BIONIC keeps the health and safety of yourself, your family, and your employees as our top priority. We understand the rapidly evolving situation and circumstances surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) worldwide pandemic can be unnerving, with new information coming available hourly and daily, thus no chance should be taken; always call in the professionals!
Cleaning: Removes germs, dirt, impurities, and microbials from surfaces and objects. The cleaning is facilitated by using soap (or detergent), water and cleaning to physically remove germs and microbials from surfaces. This process does not necessarily or always kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.
Disinfecting: Kills germs on surfaces or objects. Disinfecting works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces or objects. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.
Sanitizing: Lowering the number of germs on surfaces and objects to a safe level, as judged by public health standards and requirements. This process works by either cleaning or disinfecting surfaces and objects to lower the risk of spreading the infection and microbials.
The worldwide pandemic and Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has people scrambling to protect themselves, as well as their homes and businesses from potential infection and contamination. COVID-19 has quickly gained a reputation for being particularly insidious and dangerous. Studies to date suggest the virus that causes COVID-19 can survive on surfaces for up to a week, or longer in some instances. This is why having a trusted, professional, biohazard cleaning and remediation company available to you, is so very important.
Cleaning and Sanitization steps you can take
- If possible, use no-touch dispensers for soap and paper towels
- Provide tissues and no-touch trash cans.
- At least once per day, clean and disinfect all high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, stair rails, elevator buttons, phones, microwaves, coffee stations, sink handles, water fountains, chair arms, shared workstations or learning materials, and dining tables.
- Multiple daily cleanings are suggested if at all possible
- Provide antiseptic wipes to clean common areas and high touch point areas during the day as they are used
- Maintain flexible policies, consistent with public health guidance, that permit employees to stay home.
Bionic Emergency Services
BIONIC Emergency Services, LLC only utilizes disinfectants that are deemed effective by the Environment Protection Agency ─ the EPA’s Emerging Pathogen Standard, and those listed and recognized by the CDC ─ Centers for Disease Control. While no cleaning products can claim to kill the particular strain of COVID-19 which is involved in the current pandemic ─ due to its “novel” status (new strain) ─ the cleaning products used by BIONIC do meet the EPA’s standard and are purported by the EPA to be likely effective against the virus, based on previous known Coronavirus strains.
With the demand for COVID-19 cleaning in businesses, medical facilities, civic structures and other industries, BIONIC Emergency Services, LLC is qualified to clean up, sanitize, and disinfect commercial and industrial buildings and spaces, large and small, such as hotels and restaurants, malls, locker rooms, schools, churches, classrooms, hospitals, nursing homes, office buildings, and much more.
We assist in mitigating your exposure to health complications, hazardous environments, and in limiting legal liability, whether you are continuing to offer services during shutdowns as an essential business or service, preparing to reopen, or worst of all handling a potential or known infectious disease situation in your place of business or office.

COVID 19 Cleaning and Sanitization FAQs
Yes, our protocol for cleaning a facility where a COVID-19 infection has been confirmed, or possibly infected, is quite extensive, and involves extensive biohazard cleaning procedures. These procedures are mostly for the protection of our employees performing the services. For example, when working in this situation, BIONIC employees wear full PPE gear, work in teams to monitor each other, and dispose of used cleaning products and agents in specific ways.
The virus is so new, the EPA has not tested and established protocols or inactivation claims. In everyday terms, this means that no one can say with 100% certainty that a particular cleaning product is effective against COVID-19, and anyone who makes such a claim at this point is not using professional discretion or being honest. That could change, but at the present time, there is no test or method to guarantee complete removal, remediation, or killing of the virus by any known chemical.
That being said, the EPA has issued “Guidance to registrants: process for making claims against emerging viral pathogens not on EPA-registered disinfectant labels,” which at this time establishes approved products. An eligible product must meet the criteria in the document in order to make limited claims about disinfectant efficacy. Some of the disinfectants that can make this claim in line with dwell times and product labels are Peridox, Virex Plus, Sanimaster 7, Sanimaster 6, and Decon 30, some Lysol products, and several others.
